A former cheerleader is facing charges after an incident involving her car and a police officer. The event took place during a crowded street fair in Maryland, where she drove her vehicle into the scene while trying to reach work.
Kaide Berry Bostic, 28, a Bowie State University graduate and a member of the Zeta Delta Sorority, was filmed during the altercation on Saturday morning.
In the video, she can be heard telling a police officer, “I have to go outside. I gotta go.” The officer, however, offered to call a taxi, but Bostic declined, stating she had to be in Virginia.
Despite the officer’s attempts to reason with her, she got out of the vehicle, disregarding police orders, and tore down police tape to enter the festival area.
As she approached the bustling Main Street filled with festival-goers, onlookers shouted for her to stop as police yelled, “Stop the car!”
Eventually, officers were able to remove her from the vehicle and placed her in handcuffs. Video footage later revealed that she had made contact with the officer using her car, leading to charges of assault. She was subsequently detained.
Thankfully, while police reported minor injuries to one officer, no other individuals at the festival were harmed.
Bostic, who graduated in 2021 and had recently started a job at a tax service, has faced repercussions from the incident. According to the Bowie State University website, she was an active member of the cheerleading squad during her time at the school.
In a statement on Facebook, the Laurel Police Department commended the quick response of their officers, emphasizing that their actions prevented harm to festival attendees. However, the incident was compounded by a propane explosion at one of the booths, which resulted in part of Main Street being closed, ultimately leading to the cancellation of a planned parade.
