The EPA has terminated nearly 800 environmental justice grants.
A total of 781 have been terminated, with 377 already cancelled.
As per court records, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has cancelled about 800 grants, primarily associated with environmental justice.
In a filing made last week but first noted by the Washington Post on Tuesday, senior EPA officials mentioned that the agency has informed 377 recipients about the cancellation of their awards.
The agency is set to notify an additional 404. This totals to 781 grants that have been cancelled, as confirmed by Daniel Coogan, the EPA’s Deputy Assistant Administrator for Infrastructure and Outside Wall Resources.
A report from a Republican-led committee last year stated, “As part of the extreme rush agenda, the Biden administration has allocated hundreds of millions in taxpayer funds to activists who were also involved in political activities.”
The cancellations seem to mainly impact environmental justice programs, including those that monitor pollution. Nonetheless, one initiative aims to decrease greenhouse gas emissions in the production of construction materials.
The filing seeks to highlight the Trump administration’s wider focus on environmental justice issues, which includes the dismissal of 280 EPA staff and the reassigning of 175 other employees linked to this topic.
Environmental justice remains a contentious issue. Last year, the Republican-led House Energy and Commercial Committee published a report addressing claims concerning grants.
“As part of that radical rush-to-green agenda, lawmakers involved in the report responded jointly. “We have allocated hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to activists engaged in political activities.”
The Trump administration is eliminating waste, fraud, and corruption.
