**Spoilers ahead for IT: Welcome to Derry Episode 3 “Now You See It” now streaming on HBO Max**

While we haven’t seen Pennywise in his entirety, the tension is building. In this week’s episode, Dick Halloran, played by Chris Chalk, uses his psychic abilities to delve into Pennywise’s underground hideout. He seems to tap into a vision that reveals not just the eerie clown’s lair but also his pool of floating victims and something ominous lurking in the shadows.

Towards the end of the episode, we’re introduced to a new group—the “Losers Club.” Characters like Lily Bainbridge (Clara Stack) and Ronnie Grogan (Amanda Christine) attempt to communicate with their lost friends during a séance in a cemetery. They aim to photograph ghosts, hoping to validate their terrifying experiences. Miraculously, they manage to capture a fuzzy image of a clown in the basement.

If you’re curious about Dick Hallorann’s initial use of his psychic powers or how the child actors handled the spooky graveyard scenes, we’ve got the details on the episode’s climax.

Explaining the Ending of Episode 3

The youngsters’ plan to snap photos turns out to be eerily effective, resulting in their deceased friends’ spirits pursuing them through the graveyard in a thrilling montage. At one point, Will finds himself alone, venturing into the basement where he captures a chilling photo of a shadowy creature.

When the film is developed, a blurry figure, which Will identifies as “a clown,” raises the possibility that we got a brief glimpse of Pennywise. However, we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see Bill Skarsgård in action.

A fun tidbit: the production kept Skarsgård’s real-life Pennywise hidden from the child actors for as long as they could.

Amanda Christine shared, “We really didn’t want to see him. It was all very secretive.” In discussions with fellow young actors from the show, it surfaced that filming the nighttime cemetery scenes took about a week and involved a lot of late hours.

“We’d be shooting from midnight to around 3 a.m., rolling around in gravestones. It was a little creepy,” she commented, trying to inject humor into the experience. “But honestly, we had a blast, running around like kids do.”

Clara Stack echoed this sentiment, noting that late-night snack runs to Crafty brought everyone closer. “We got to know each other a lot better while being a little silly.” Arian S. Cartaya added that their time together helped forge friendships, although the eerie surroundings of a graveyard at 3 a.m. were undeniably strange.

Blake Cameron James reflected on how the scenes mirrored their characters connecting. “Initially, we kind of doubted it, but then it hit us. We realized we needed to uncover the truth.”

Does Dick Halloran Encounter Pennywise?

One standout scene involves Dick Halloran using an old slingshot belonging to General Shaw to track down Pennywise. Here, we witness how Dick’s abilities manifest and his growing trepidation about them.

Chris Chalk remarked on the gradual revelation of Dick’s character. “It’s a slow burn in a way, yet it feels immediate. Once he grabs that slingshot, it becomes clear how much is at stake.” The moment he interacts with it, he realizes the gravity of what he’s up against.

As Dick explores the sewers, he comes across Pennywise’s wagon, and his encounter takes a dark turn as he confronts unsettling visions. He hears Pennywise ask, “Who are you?” as a sinister figure materializes.

Overall, yes, Dick Halloran does come face-to-face with Pennywise in this episode, though the whole story remains shrouded in mystery for now.
