Epstein’s Attorney Comments on Trump Relationship
During a recent closed session of the House Oversight Committee, Darren Indyke, Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime lawyer and co-executor of his estate, claimed he was unaware of any connection between Epstein and President Donald Trump. This statement was made in the context of the ongoing investigation into Epstein’s activities.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, noted that Democrats quickly probed Indyke about Trump’s relationship with Epstein. Comer remarked, “Republicans posed substantive questions that any journalist would likely ask, while Democrats shifted focus to Trump.”
“Mr. Indyke stated that he was not aware of any relationship between Mr. Epstein and Mr. Trump,” Comer clarified. He added that Indyke denied any knowledge of Epstein’s illegal activities. Interestingly, Indyke did not invoke his Fifth Amendment rights when answering committee questions.
Comer mentioned that Indyke seemed unaware of anything inappropriate happening with young women around Epstein until it became public. After Epstein’s initial conviction in 2008, Indyke reportedly expressed to the committee that Epstein assured him he would not reoffend and expressed remorse.
“It feels like we’re asking a lot of questions, but almost every witness either claims ignorance or draws a blank,” Comer said, referring to those close to Epstein who were potentially involved in the trafficking operations. “But we keep at it.”
Meanwhile, Democrats on the committee were skeptical of Indyke’s claims. Rep. Dave Minn, a Democrat from California, expressed surprise that Indyke did not invoke the Fifth Amendment and suggested that he may have committed perjury. “He says he never knew any women or girls, but many women have pointed out how he helped them out,” Minn argued.
Earlier testimony from Richard Kahn, another co-executor of Epstein’s estate, and Epstein’s former accountant echoed Indyke’s sentiments, stating ignorance regarding Trump’s dealings with Epstein. Even former President Bill Clinton, during his testimony, indicated that Trump had never implied any awareness of Epstein’s activities.
Comer criticized committee Democrats for creating a “false narrative” suggesting a cover-up, especially regarding Trump’s alleged involvement. He affirmed that the witnesses consistently disputed these claims. Trump himself has said he severed ties with Epstein in the early 2000s after a lengthy friendship.
