Expensive smoothies are now part of an artistic setting.
Erewhon, a trendy grocery store, has established a permanent spot at the LA County Museum of Art, transforming its previous pop-up into a lasting location.
This beloved chain, recognized for its delicious offerings and high price tags, made the announcement this week alongside plans for special items to commemorate the occasion.
The grocer has launched a LACMA-themed apparel collection, featuring a sweatshirt, tote bag, and a hat, all adorned with unique, hand-painted touches.
Additionally, they’re introducing a special smoothie that includes organic ingredients like lion’s mane, mango, pineapple, strawberry, and mandarin.
The apparel line draws inspiration from Alexander Calder’s sculpture, Three Quintains (Hello Girls) (1964), which sits in front of the café.
A portion of the sales from this collection will support educational initiatives and exhibitions at the museum. These items will be available both at the LACMA Store within the David Geffen Galleries and online.
“We couldn’t be prouder to transition our partnership with LACMA from a temporary setup to a permanent establishment,” Erewhon’s CEO Tony Antoci shared in a press release.
“This being our first ever concept café is a significant milestone for Erewhon and opens a new chapter for how we engage with the communities we serve.”
The company, famous for its juices and smoothies often priced at $20 or higher, first opened this location in May, but not all feedback has been positive.
One social media user commented, “Museums should be accessible, Erewhon is the opposite of that.” Another lamented, “This isn’t the right place for Erewhon! I really hope this isn’t true!” While yet another expressed frustration: “This was a terrible decision. Erewhon needs to be removed from this public space immediately.”
Despite the discontent, Erewhon’s establishment at LACMA is confirmed. This location joins the chain’s other 13 stores, including their latest opening in Thousand Oaks, which marks their first supermarket outside of LA County.
The company also has future plans for additional locations, like Downtown LA, set to open in June 2027 and another in Costa Mesa planned for September 2027. Plus, their Pacific Palisades site is scheduled to reopen in January 2027 after a fire impacted it.
