Eric Adams addresses speculation about joining the Trump administration: 'I'm running'

Eric Adams Reaffirms Commitment to Re-election

During a press conference on Friday, New York Mayor Eric Adams addressed swirling rumors regarding his potential withdrawal from the race for re-election. He asserted, quite firmly, “I’m running and I’m going to beat Mamdani.”

Adams, who took office as a Democrat in 2022, is gearing up to face a challenging opponent in Zoran Mamdani, a Muslim and socialist Democrat who was born in Uganda. Additionally, former Governor Andrew Cuomo is also in the mix, running as an independent after his recent loss to Mamdani in the Democratic primary.

In his remarks, Adams took aim at both Mamdani and Cuomo, labeling them as “two spoiled brats running for mayor.” He expressed clear disdain for Cuomo, referring to him as a “snake and a liar,” and emphasized, “I’m the only one who can beat a mum tick.”

Adams expressed his determination to stay the course, saying, “This is a very important and significant time and we have to get it right.” He emphasized the differences between himself and his opponents, noting, “They were born with a silver spoon in their mouths. They’re not like working-class New Yorkers. I’m a working-class New Yorker.”

He also made a point of criticizing Cuomo’s track record, suggesting that it has often marginalized black candidates. Additionally, Adams rejected any speculation about joining the Trump administration, stating, “There are a lot of reports of him being in Washington on Monday. These reports are wrong. I’m not.” Instead, he vowed to be present in the city’s neighborhoods, reminding voters daily why he believes he deserves another term.

Although he acknowledged being behind in polls, Adams dismissed their significance. He remarked, “I heard the polls, I hear the comments, but the critics can hear.” He referenced the same polls that had previously claimed Cuomo would comfortably lead, emphasizing the unpredictability of political landscapes.

Adams reiterated his commitment to the city, stating, “I’m going to take down the Mamdani. I’m going to continue the success this city has witnessed.” He made it clear that his dedication remains as strong as ever, saying, “I’ve committed myself and dedicated myself to the city I love. I’m going to continue doing that. This polo shirt worn by New York City Mayor Eric Adams, I’m going to wear it for another four years.”
