Eric Adams could genuinely prevent Mamdani's success — but Andrew Cuomo must withdraw.

Is Mayor Eric Adams in a position to emerge victorious against the anti-Semitic socialist Zoran Mamdani? That certainly seems to be his hope after a recent meeting with the Post editorial board.

But there’s a twist: Adam’s strategy relies heavily on former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who has been ousted from the race after his embarrassing performance in the primary. This puts Adams in a unique position.

It’s crucial for Cuomo to publicly bow out of the race soon.

Adams believes he can rally support; he points out that many young Democrats have romanticized socialism, helping Mamdani gain traction. He notes that traditional Democrats, who lean toward a more established candidate, will be more inclined to support him come November.

The city boasts over a million registered voters, and Adams aims to attract Republicans who want to block Mamdani’s path to City Hall.

He also trusts that immigrants who have lived under socialist regimes will recognize the potential dangers. Adams believes Jewish groups are keen on maintaining their stance against Mamdani, feeling he doesn’t represent their needs.

Business leaders have shifted their focus to Adams, seeing him as their primary hope for a viable candidate.

While Adams is aware of the challenges he faces, he seems to be gathering a solid team. He recognizes that rebuilding public trust will be essential going forward.

Once thought to be on shaky ground, Adams now finds himself with a real opportunity.

However, if Cuomo chooses to run as an independent, it could divide the anti-Mamdani votes, potentially allowing the socialists to take control.

Cuomo must act quickly and step aside.

Let’s not forget that it’s not just the youthful radicals opposed to Cuomo; many New Yorkers have not forgotten his troubling record. Policies enacted during his tenure contributed to rising crime, increasing utility costs, and a lack of effective leadership in nursing homes.

Perhaps Curtis Sliwa ought to step back as well. The GOP needs to unify behind a single candidate who can effectively counter Mamdani’s socialist agenda.

After Tuesday’s events, it’s hard to envision a successful path for Cuomo, especially given the steep odds facing him as a Democrat in New York. Both he and Sliwa must recognize the importance of presenting a united front to save the city from looming challenges.
