Mayor Backs Ex-Girlfriend’s Memoir

Surprisingly, Mayor Eric Adams has given his endorsement to the memoir of his ex-girlfriend, Jasmine Ray. The book, which explores the details of their secretive 10-year relationship, is titled “Political Humanity.”

Adams praised Ray, who he once appointed as the city’s first sports czar, for her self-published work, which offers insight into the inner workings of City Hall and is connected to a position earning $160,000 a year.

In a post on X, he expressed, “Jas has always coached with integrity. Writing this book wasn’t easy, but she wanted people to understand the work, the mission, and the human side behind the headlines. I respect her for that, and I enjoyed reading her. I would recommend everyone to read this book.”

Ray, now 42, openly reflects on her feelings for Adams, who is 65, even after their two-year romance ended in 2016. She also shares insights into his private life, including her painful experiences when former Mayor Michael Bloomberg endorsed Andrew Cuomo in the recent mayoral race. The memoir details intimate moments with the then-Brooklyn borough president, such as how she would soothe him by rubbing the scar on the back of his head for “hours.”

Additionally, Ray has criticized Adams for what she perceives as a double standard in how he treats prominent Black politicians, despite acknowledging that he sometimes surrounded himself with unqualified associates.

The memoir’s release comes shortly after Adams publicly withdrew from the New York City mayoral race amid a corruption scandal. In an interview last week, Ray expressed her belief that he should not have abandoned his re-election campaign, adding, “I think he made a mistake in quitting. I think the city made a mistake by turning its back on him.”

Notably, Adams had kept his past relationship with Ray private until her book came out. He has since been in a relationship with his girlfriend, Tracy Collins, for a year, but that detail is not addressed in Ray’s memoir.
