New York City Chief Counsel Lisa Zornberg has resigned from her position in Mayor Eric Adams' administration, City Hall announced late Saturday night.
Zornberg is Served as Chief Lawyer He will begin working for Adams and City Hall in July 2023.
Neither Adams nor Zornberg explained the reasons for her resignation in their respective statements sent by City Hall.
“I want to thank Lisa for all her hard work over the past 13 months serving our administration and, most importantly, our city. These are hard jobs and no one expects to be in a job forever. I wish Lisa the best in her future endeavors,” Mayor Adams said in a statement.
“The other senior members of the legal team will remain in their roles to ensure the office continues to function smoothly and fully, and we expect to appoint an acting chief legal counsel in the coming days,” he continued.
“I am deeply grateful to Mayor Adams for the opportunity to serve our city, and I strongly support the work he has done and will continue to do for New Yorkers,” Sonberg said in a statement.
Zornberg's resignation comes as federal investigators step up their investigation into several of Adams' top aides.
Former NYPD Commissioner Edward Cavan resigned a few days ago, nearly a week after the FBI searched his home and seized equipment, as well as the homes of three of Adams' top lieutenants.
Other officials from whom the FBI seized equipment last week included First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Philip Banks and Timothy Pearson, a mayoral adviser and former NYPD officer, The Associated Press reported last week, citing two people who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan is leading the investigation, but its subject matter remains unclear. Earlier this month, the NYPD told The Hill it is aware of and is cooperating with investigations involving its officers, but did not provide any details about the investigation.
