Eric Dane has reportedly transitioned from his estranged wife, Rebecca Gayhart, to manager Janelle Shirtcliffe as he battles amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
According to an insider, “They’ve had an on-again, off-again relationship for more than three years, and they really care for one another.” This information came to light in a Wednesday report by Entertainment Tonight.
“Eric asked Janelle to support him during this difficult time. She wanted to be there for him.”
Sources indicate that Dane and Shirtcliffe, who is 52, share a strong bond and “mean a lot to each other.” The two were recently seen enjoying a date night at Chateau Marmont.
In regard to the situation with Gayhart, whom Dane married in 2004, he opted to withdraw his divorce application from 2018 back in March, citing his health struggles as a significant factor.
Sources suggest that the actor aims to become “a better friend and a better parent.” The insider emphasized that Gayhart, age 53, remains Dane’s “biggest champion.”
Dane’s representative has not yet provided comments regarding this situation.
The couple shares two daughters: 15-year-old Billy and 13-year-old Georgia. Despite their separation, Dane and Gayhart have maintained a positive co-parenting relationship, even being spotted holding hands during a vacation in Mexico earlier this year.
In an April interview with E! News, Gayhart characterized their relationship with phrases like “best friends,” “really close,” and “great co-parents.”
Meanwhile, Dane decided to halt the divorce proceedings from Gayhart in March, reinforcing their ongoing connection amid his health challenges.
“I believe our kids benefit from it, and so do we,” she stated.
Earlier that month, Dane revealed his ALS diagnosis in an honest interview. “As I navigate this next chapter, I am grateful that my beloved family is by my side,” he shared.
At the time, he was also involved in filming season 3 of “Euphoria.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, ALS is a “neurological disease” that can progressively lead to a “loss of muscle control.” Dane began noticing symptoms about a year and a half ago, starting with weakness in his right hand.
