Eric Swalwell Asserts Seriously That He 'Doesn't Wake Up Every Day' To Combat Trump

Swalwell Denies Mortgage Fraud Allegations

California Rep. Eric Swalwell strongly rejected accusations of mortgage fraud during an appearance on MSNBC. He pointed to his role as a “vocal critic” of President Donald Trump as a reason for the allegations against him.

On Thursday, the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, Bill Pruitt, referred Swalwell to the Justice Department, suggesting that the congressman provided false or misleading information in connection with documents for purchasing a home worth $1.2 million in Washington, D.C. Later that evening, Swalwell appeared on “The Weeknight” and asserted that those who openly oppose Trump are often targeted, although they don’t necessarily “wake up every day” intending to battle him.

“These are unfounded allegations, much like those against [Senator] Adam Schiff or [Attorney General] Letitia James,” Swalwell stated, listing individuals currently facing federal scrutiny or indictment for mortgage fraud.

“Guess what? There will be more baseless claims next week,” he added. “This is simply how Trump engages with his adversaries. And nobody has spoken out more than I have.”

Swalwell mentioned that he is involved in a significant case against Trump concerning the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

“I don’t go to work every day solely to confront Donald Trump. I’m focused on the people of California, and he just happens to be in the way,” he explained. He seemed quite certain that Trump underestimated his, Schiff’s, and others’ resolve to stand firm.

“I have just one house in California and a mortgage; I split my time between California and D.C. This is, once again, just Trump trying to take down his opponents,” Swalwell said during the segment. He highlighted the importance of the upcoming 2026 midterms in shaping Congressional control.

“Being in the majority is crucial because they believe they can act without consequences. In a year, we’ll reclaim that majority, as confirmed by California voters who recently supported Proposition 50. This measure aims to restructure state districts and potentially hand five seats to the Democrats,” he noted.

In a statement from September, Swalwell mentioned that if the Democrats gain a majority in the House in 2026, he would push to subpoena individuals associated with the Trump administration.

“Once we’re in the majority, we’ll have the power to demand accountability. Those bureaucrats engaging in political prosecutions for Trump should prepare to spend time answering questions in the Judiciary Committee Room. I’m confident that their actions have not been without justification,” he concluded.
