Swalwell Suggests Impeachment for Bondi if Democrats Gain Control
On Sunday, California Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell proposed that Democrats might consider impeaching Attorney General Pam Bondi if they manage to secure control of both congressional chambers in 2026.
This discussion follows the Trump administration’s failure to meet a December 19 deadline to release documents connected to Jeffrey Epstein, a registered sex offender. Laura Barron-Lopez, co-host of “The Weeknd,” questioned whether Bondi could be impeached over this issue.
“It sounds like you’re indicating we should push for Bondi’s impeachment due to potential contempt, right?” Barron-Lopez asked. Swalwell’s reply hinted at that possibility. “Or restrict funding, yes,” he stated.
Barron-Lopez followed up, saying, “Limiting funding could be a way to go, but it likely won’t happen until the Democrats win the House in 2026.” Swalwell agreed, emphasizing the need to show readiness for such measures if they gain a majority.
While some parts of the Epstein files were released on December 19, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stated on “Meet the Press” that additional documents would be forthcoming. More files indeed appeared on a subsequent Tuesday, although the Justice Department claimed they included baseless allegations against the president.
In July, some of Trump’s supporters raised concerns about his and Bondi’s management of the Epstein documents, with Trump receiving feedback on the issue via Truth Social, as reported by Newsweek.
On a different note, Swalwell faced allegations regarding an affair with Christine Huang, who is believed to have connections with China’s Ministry of State Security. Though he denied any wrongdoing, he was removed from the House Intelligence Committee by then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy due to these allegations.
Democrats have attempted to link Trump to Epstein through their past association, yet one of Epstein’s notable victims, Virginia Giuffre, did not implicate Trump in her memoir. Interestingly, her ghostwriter mentioned that Giuffre had been a Trump supporter and hoped he would release files concerning Epstein.
Moreover, during a panel discussion with NBC News, other victims of Epstein stated they had no knowledge of any wrongdoings on Trump’s part. Lawyer Bradley Edwards, who has worked with several of Epstein’s victims, praised Trump for his cooperation during legal proceedings in 2009.
