Eric Swalwell shares emotional reaction to Trump DOJ investigation: 'I won't live in fear'

Swalwell Faces Allegations of Mortgage Fraud

California Representative Eric Swalwell is now under scrutiny from the Trump administration, which is investigating him for alleged mortgage fraud. This is part of a broader focus on several Democrats.

Swalwell’s name has been brought up in connection with Justice Department charges regarding mortgage and tax fraud related to Donald Trump’s residence in Washington, D.C.

He’s among four political figures facing accusations, alongside Senator Adam Schiff, Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Swalwell claims that the investigation seems to be politically motivated, especially given the history of lawsuits initiated by the Trump administration against Democrats.

“I’ve been a loud critic of Donald Trump for many years, and I guess it’s no surprise he would come after me eventually,” Swalwell noted in a statement on Thursday.

In a communication to Attorney General Pam Bondi, Bill Pelt, who leads the Federal Housing Finance Agency, suggested that significant loans and refinances were based on Swalwell declaring his D.C. home as his primary residence.

Pelt further indicated that Swalwell might have provided misleading information on loan documents, leading to investigations into various forms of fraud.

“I will not be intimidated, not like others who have faced similar situations. This was once a free country, and I refuse to live in fear,” Swalwell expressed.

He reiterated his commitment to speaking out against the president and for the interests of Californians. “As Mark Twain said, ‘Patriotism supports one’s country and government when it is deserved.’ Mr. President, try harder. Be better,” he added.
