Eric Swalwell Wears ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Hat, Complains That Host’s Absence Should ‘Alarm’ Americans

Swalwell Comments on Kimmel’s Show Cancellation

California Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell expressed his disappointment over the indefinite cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show on ABC. This decision followed Kimmel’s controversial remarks related to the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

On “CNN News Central,” Swalwell suggested that Kimmel’s termination stemmed from anger directed at him from former President Donald Trump, after the host poked fun at Trump. “I was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel’s show. He has every right to entertain Americans, just as others do,” Swalwell remarked, adding a slight jab at Fox’s Greg Gutfeld’s comedic talent.

The cancellation followed Kimmel’s monologue where he inaccurately portrayed Kirk’s alleged assassin. He had juxtaposed clips of Trump questioning how hard the president worked during a debate about Kirk’s loss, drawing an analogical comparison to a child’s mourning over a dead goldfish.

Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar Broadcasting Division, labeled Kimmel’s comments as “aggressive and insensitive.” Following this, a statement from Disney led to the show being put on hold as they navigated the fallout. ABC then officially announced the program would be on hold indefinitely.

Swalwell argued that there wasn’t enough information regarding the suspect, suggesting Kimmel’s absence at Kirk’s memorial and his weekend golf outing raised further questions about his character.

Authorities revealed that the suspect, Tyler Robinson, had adopted a left-wing ideology in recent years, alongside living with his trans boyfriend. Reports indicated that a bullet casing linked to the assassination was found, displaying anti-fascist phrases.

Authorities described the motive as stemming from “hate” that was irreconcilable, asserting Robinson targeted Kirk for this reason.

Previously, Kimmel had attracted attention for celebrating a shooting involving Tucker Carlson, calling it a “fun shock.”
