Eric Swalwell’s Campaign Spending: A Luxurious Lifestyle

For years, Eric Swalwell reportedly enjoyed a lavish lifestyle as a U.S. Congressman, funded primarily through his campaign contributions. This included stays at five-star hotels and extravagant dining experiences.

His opulent lifestyle didn’t stop at hotels; it also extended to his air travel. A former staff member revealed to the Post that Swalwell exclusively flew first class during his unsuccessful campaign for governor and throughout his congressional career.

In 2025 alone, Swalwell’s congressional campaign reportedly spent about $192,000 on airfare, as confirmed by campaign reports. This included more than 50 flights exceeding $1,000 and 18 flights costing over $2,000 each.

His extravagant habits carried over into his gubernatorial aspirations, with significant air travel expenses documented. For example, he charged more than $22,000 for airline tickets for himself and various individuals just in December. Notably, this included a flight from Washington, D.C., to San Francisco that cost $1,845.

One former employee commented, “Living a life of luxury while traveling around the country is not a good use of donor money.”

A recent review of campaign records indicated that Swalwell became the treasurer of his gubernatorial campaign committee, which currently holds over $4 million in cash. However, some expense reports were found to be incomplete, listing over 200 airline charges without proper explanations.

In mid-April, Swalwell suspended his gubernatorial campaign and subsequently resigned following multiple women coming forward with serious allegations, including rape and sexual assault. His situation has caught the attention of authorities, leading to criminal investigations in both Los Angeles and Manhattan, as well as an inquiry by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Earlier reports highlighted that Swalwell had spent around $500,000 from donor funds on luxury accommodations, including places where he allegedly committed acts against women. Over the last year, he accrued a staggering $36,500 in hotel charges in both the U.S. and Mexico.

Additionally, record-checking revealed over 100 charges against a now-defunct alcohol distribution company; these charges were tied to Swalwell’s alleged excessive drinking during his travels.
