Eric Trump Criticizes NYC’s New Mayor at Conservative Event

During a Turning Point USA event on Wednesday, Eric Trump expressed concerns about New York City’s future under the newly elected Mayor Zoran Mamdani, calling his approach to politics “crazy.” He emphasized that conservatives must resist allowing this style of governance to take root nationwide.

Eric and his wife, Lara Trump, interacted with conservative media figure Benny Johnson in front of a full audience at Auburn University. Their discussion was marked by tributes to Charlie Kirk, who was tragically killed, but the recent Democratic election victories weighed heavily on the conversation.

The couple took sharp jabs at the “left,” labeling them as godless and “evil.” They referred to Tyler Robinson, accused of killing Kirk, as the real “fascist.” Interestingly, Mamdani’s name only came up when an audience member asked about their thoughts on his win against former Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Eric made a biting remark about socialists making grand promises to New Yorkers, humorously calling it a “brilliant” strategy aimed at residents of such a significant city.

“This is destroying a great American city, and we cannot allow this to spread across this country,” he declared to enthusiastic applause.

Lara cautioned that positioning Mamdani as the “new face of the Democratic Party” might not unfold as even his supporters envision.

“We can never allow something like this to happen again in the United States,” she asserted.

She also reminded the young conservatives in attendance that Republicans need to reach out more effectively if they want to succeed in the 2026 midterm elections.

“We’re only a year away from the midterms. We can’t leave anything to chance. Even if we can’t take anything away from the results in New York City, Virginia, and New Jersey, the fight isn’t over. We need all of you to join in,” she urged.

Before the Trumps spoke, Johnson had voiced concerns about “communists” winning elections, describing them as fundamentally anti-life. He remarked, “A literal communist was elected mayor of New York,” emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

As they spoke, Eric called his father, former President Donald Trump, for a brief moment of connection. Trump acknowledged the support from Alabama during his historic second-term win, recognizing Charlie Kirk and his contributions.

In response to Mamdani’s victory, President Trump previously referred to him as a “little communist,” although he didn’t address the New York election specifically while reflecting on broader Republican losses.

Mamdani, in his victory speech, directly challenged Trump, saying, “Donald Trump, I know you’re watching, so I have four words for you: Turn up the volume.” He added that those who felt betrayed by Trump could learn from the city that produced him.
