In a recent episode of “Pod Force One,” Eric Trump shared insights into the family rules imposed by his father and offered a glimpse into his experiences growing up with his mother, Ivana.
Eric, 41, emphasized that his father instilled valuable lessons early on—like when he was sent to a construction site with a helmet to earn minimum wage. It was all part of his father’s approach, which included strict guidelines: no alcohol, no drugs, no smoking, good grades, no tattoos, and caution around trust.
He noted, “These rules pretty much encapsulate my father’s views.” Eric added that both his parents were mindful about the dangers of having too much time or money, implying that indulgence could lead to trouble.
Reflecting on his time before Georgetown University, Eric mentioned his boarding school, The Hill, which also boasts notable alumni like Oliver Stone and James Baker.
He remarked, “I didn’t know many kids who avoided rehab. They all struggled with having too much free time and cash.” His father’s strategy was clear: steer clear of nightclubs and hard drugs, and it seemed to work pretty well.
As for his mother, Ivana was a unique force in his life, described as “just tough.” Eric reminisced about her elegance and her distinct parenting style.
He humorously recalled, “If she went too far out of line, her long nails would dig into you, and if you messed up, well… you’d feel it.” Ivana had a knack for keeping everyone in check, which sometimes included a bit of tough love, he said.

When discussing which parent was more of the disciplinarian, Eric’s response was layered. “It’s probably not okay by today’s standards to touch kids, and I get that,” he noted. “But, honestly, it worked.” He shared anecdotes of his mother’s stern approach, emphasizing her love and unique personality.
Eric fondly described her as an incredible mix of elegance and strength, capable of telling even the toughest construction worker to straighten up. Despite her upbringing in a communist regime, she had a charming and fun side, and she was a remarkable athlete.
Tragically, Ivana passed away at 73 in July 2022 after a mishap at her home. Eric opened up about the experience in his memoir, “Under Siege: My Family’s Fight to Save Our Nation.” He suggested that her health issues were exacerbated by alcohol, reflecting on the day of her passing as particularly painful.
In the end, he concluded, “We loved her. She was a wonderful woman, truly.”
