Erika Kirk Reflects on Charlie Kirk’s Legacy
At a memorial held on Sunday, Erika Kirk shared her thoughts on her late husband, Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, and discussed her feelings regarding his suspected assassin. Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused in Charlie Kirk’s death on September 10, bore a resemblance to other young men Charlie often encountered, Erika noted.
She expressed, “Charlie wanted to save a young man, just like the one who took his life.” Erika quoted scripture, saying, “Our Savior said, ‘Father, forgive them, I don’t know what they are doing.’ I will forgive that young man… it’s what Christ did, and that’s what Charlie would do.”
Erica’s Acknowledgment of the Audience
Speaking at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, she thanked those present for honoring her husband. She even began her speech referencing Isaiah 6:8, a verse significant to Charlie.
Erika recounted a personal memory, saying, “After Charlie finished speaking, I told him, ‘Next time, let me know before you say that statement.'” There was power in his words, she added, emphasizing how impactful they could be.
Charlie Kirk was shot at Utah Valley University, and the emotional toll of seeing her husband’s lifeless body was profound for Erika. “I was looking at my husband’s murdered body firsthand,” she recounted. “I felt shock, fear, and heartache I didn’t think I could experience.” Yet, amidst the pain, she described seeing a comforting image: “I noticed one grey hair and thought to myself, ‘Sorry, babe, I’m talking about you now.’
Erica’s Insights on Their Marriage
Erika shared that amidst the tragedy, she felt a sense of mercy from God during such a dark moment. “There was a faint smile on his lips… Charlie mentioned he felt no pain, and even the doctor confirmed the swiftness of it all,” she recalled.
Reflecting on their marriage, she revealed a cherished routine: every Saturday, Charlie would write her a love note. “Someone asked if we thought our marriage was strong despite his travel, and I told them it was the little things that mattered,” she explained. “He always shared highlights from his week and would end the notes with the most beautiful questions.”
Faith and Legacy
Erika emphasized that Charlie lived life to the fullest and sought to leave without regrets. “He did everything he could every day,” she said, noting, “I miss him deeply; our marriage and family were beautiful.”
She concluded her speech by stating she is now the CEO of the new Turning Point USA, embracing her husband’s mission as her own. “What we’ve built through Charlie’s vision is now amplified through the power of his memory,” Erika said. “Assassins won’t deter us from standing up for our rights.”
