Erica Kirk’s Emotional Arrival in Arizona
Images from Thursday captured a grieving Erica Kirk, who raised a cross to her supporters upon arriving in Arizona.
Vice Presidents and Second Lady Usha Vance accompanied Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk to Phoenix that day. In a poignant moment, Erica, dressed in black, held hands with another woman as they descended the stairs of Air Force 2.
Images shared on social media depict Erica holding a cross towards a crowd of mourning supporters. There’s some confusion, as many claim it’s a rosary. However, given that Charlie Kirk, her late husband, was an evangelical Christian, commenters suggest it might actually be a necklace belonging to him, rather than a traditional rosary.
The scene was somber, especially as the Vice President led a co-guard for Kirk as his body arrived in Arizona.
Vance paid tribute to his friend, sharing his memories in part:
When I was running for VP, Charlie was always there for me, supporting me both publicly and privately. I felt a deep responsibility for my family’s well-being, and Charlie often reached out, offering guidance and prayer. His work helped us organize significant events, showing he was more than just a thinker. He brought people together, and he always signed off with a hug and encouragement, reminding me to focus on Wisconsin while assuring me that Arizona was secure.
He continued, expressing Charlie’s profound faith: “Charlie loved Jesus, and we often discussed our beliefs. We wanted to understand each other better.”
Sadly, Kirk, only 31 years old, was fatally shot while engaging with audiences at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University earlier this week. He leaves behind his wife and two young children.
Authorities report that a 22-year-old suspect named Tyler Robinson has been arrested in connection with Kirk’s murder.
