Erica Kirk Reflects on Tragedy in First Interview After Charlie Kirk’s Death
In her first TV interview following the assassination of her husband, Charlie Kirk, Erica Kirk opened up about her experience when she arrived at the hospital. She described a moment with a police officer that has haunted her since that day.
“What do you really say to someone whose husband has just been killed in such a public way?” she shared during an exclusive appearance on “Jesse Watters Prime Time.” Erica recounted how the officer advised Charlie not to look at him. Yet, Charlie insisted he needed to “see what happened” and wanted to say goodbye properly.
“He said, ‘I’ve been doing this for 30-odd years. I’m not going to prevent you from seeing your husband, but in my professional opinion, it’s better to wait until he’s at the morgue. You don’t want to see him like this,’” she recalled.
As Erica relayed this moment, she explained the mixed atmosphere in the room; half the people thought waiting was sensible, while the others understood her determination. She pushed back, saying, “With all due respect, I want to see what they did to my husband. I need to kiss him, because I didn’t get the chance to this morning.”
She mentioned discussing the situation with her doctor as well. “He assured me he would make sure that happened,” Erica added.
During the interview, she, alongside Jesse Watters, revisited the terrible events from September when a 22-year-old, Tyler Robinson, allegedly shot her husband. She has been vocal about her campaign to keep media cameras out of the courtroom during the murder trial, addressed comments made by late-night host Jimmy Kimmel after the tragedy, and spoke about how her faith has helped her cope during this challenging period.
Erica didn’t pull any punches when discussing those who seemed to celebrate her husband’s death. “There’s so much beauty in life, so I just can’t wrap my head around why anyone would say someone deserves to die in such a way. Why would you go there?”
She reflected, “It could be your parent, your spouse, anyone you care about. It feels different once it’s someone you love.” Wanting to express her disbelief about some people’s reactions, she added, “I would encourage anyone who finds enjoyment in watching violence to really think about their life choices.”
When questioned about whether she believed Charlie would forgive his killer, Erica seemed certain. “He’s in heaven and understands the bigger picture. If God gave him a choice to come back—knowing the impact his death would have—I think he would say no,” she concluded.
