Erica Kirk Denies Gun Violence Root Cause of Husband’s Assassination

Erica Kirk, the CEO of Turning Point USA and widow of the late conservative figure Charlie Kirk, has rejected claims linking her husband’s assassination to gun violence.

During a recent interview with journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin at the New York Times Dealbook Summit, Kirk discussed her husband’s pre-assassination plans to attend the event, which has previously featured notable figures like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos.

Sorkin pointed out that gun violence was a recurring topic of discussion for him and Charlie in light of mass shootings in the U.S. He asked Erica how she perceived gun violence now, especially considering her husband’s tragic fate.

“That’s a thoughtful question,” she said, reflecting on her experience. “I wouldn’t wish what I’ve been through on anyone, and I support the Second Amendment. But there’s a much larger conversation at play.”

Kirk went on to say that while visiting college campuses, counselors often highlight mental health, anxiety, and depression as major issues facing students. “Charlie understood the importance of mental well-being—what you eat, how you care for yourself,” she noted, emphasizing that these factors go deeper than just surface-level issues.

She expressed concern that there’s a growing tendency for people to resort to violence rather than entertain differing opinions. “It’s not just about guns—it’s a fundamentally human issue,” she argued, suggesting it’s a matter of the soul and spirit.

Kirk admitted that after her husband’s murder, she removed all social media from her devices. “Social media has its good and bad sides. Both Charlie and I made a point to delete it from our phones,” she explained. “We’ve got enough on our plates without engaging in that negativity.” She reflected on how being called names online doesn’t bother her much, saying that the loss of her husband overshadows such trivialities.

Charlie Kirk had also put importance on balancing technology use, respecting the Sabbath, and teaching their children to unplug each week, she shared. “It wasn’t instant. He gradually made it a habit. When Friday evening came, he’d turn off his phone and stash it in a drawer. That was his time to just be with family, to rest and understand that life is far more significant than day-to-day worries,” Erica recalled, showing admiration for how well he managed to disconnect and cherish those moments.
