Erin Andrews has entered the fray.
A Fox Sports reporter fired back at an anonymous NFL executive who called Bills quarterback Josh Allen “overrated.”Calm downShe appears on the podcast “The Celebrities,” which she co-hosts with Charissa Thompson.
“Look, if you’re going to say something about it, say it with your heart out. Take responsibility,” Andrews said. “You’re going to say mean things because you’re scared. It’s like Twitter. Shut up.”
“Sources are funny, aren’t they?” Thompson added. “If I was too honest I’d get in trouble, so I’ll leave it at that.”
The drama unfolded ESPN announced an investigation Eighty NFL coaches, executives and scouts ranked the league’s top 10 players at 11 positions. One anonymous executive said: A two-time Pro Bowler, he was “one of the most overrated players in the NFL.”
“He has great talent, [Allen] “He makes too many mistakes,” an executive reportedly told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. “He has immature skills at winning at the line of scrimmage, a tendency to lock on to targets, an emphasis on throwing rather than precision passing and a tendency to throw passes into congested areas.”
Allen, the No. 3 quarterback behind the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and the Bengals’ Joe Burrow, had a strong 2023 season, ranking fourth in the NFL with 4,306 passing yards, 29 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.
He ran for 524 yards and his 15 rushing touchdowns were second-most in the league.
Bills general manager Brandon Beane also expressed dissatisfaction with the source’s comments.
“I don’t know where to begin. It’s frustrating,” Beane said during Bills training camp last week. “You try to ignore this stuff, but Josh is in his seventh year and there’s still opposition. I don’t get it. If I was going to rate him, I’d say underrated before I’d say overrated. I know there’s bias. He’s our guy and we love him every day.”
“These things that are publicly released, I know people are happy with anybody’s ranking, but when you make comments like that without your name on it, like, who is this executive? Executive is a vague term. I think I was called an executive long before I should have been called an executive. I just want to say if you don’t put your name on it, we shouldn’t approve it,” he added.
“Idiots are everywhere”
Andrews, 46, and Thompson, 42, jumped on the topic after a conversation about Joe Burrow’s new hairstyle – a bleached blonde shaved head – sparking shock and laughter on social media.
The QB’s reaction to the new look was simple: “It was boring,” he told reporters during training camp.
“He’s a great guy,” Thompson, host of Fox NFL Kickoff and the Sunday morning pregame show, said of the 27-year-old.
“Like Joe Burrow, I’m still figuring out what to do with my hair. Have you seen this cutie? I love it. Hey Joe, what do you think?” she said.
Andrews chimed in: “By the way, to all the weird people who say stuff like that, first of all, who are you? Second of all, just be yourself. Why can’t we all just have fun? Aaron Rodgers always starts the season with a big moustache, like in the preseason.”
“People just commenting is like what would happen if Joe Burrow stood behind any old microphone and commented on your appearance,” she continued. “Why would we feel bad?”
The Fox Sports personality and BFF launched their podcast in February 2021.
