Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) on Thursday on FNC's “America's Newsroom” voiced her support for President-elect Donald Trump's pick for Secretary of Defense, former Fox News host Pete Hegseth. I refused.
The Iowa Republican said the vetting process needs to continue.
“I had a really long, long conversation with Pete yesterday,” she said. “I appreciate his service to the nation. I'm a veteran as well. So we're going to be talking about a lot of these issues and continue the vetting process. I think that's very important. I reiterate. But what I would like to say is that we had a very frank and productive discussion, and I know that there will be continued dialogue in the coming months.”
“[I] “I think a lot of senators want to make sure that all allegations are cleared, and that's why we need a very thorough vetting process,” Ernst said. “That's why it was a pleasure to sit down and have a conversation with Pete yesterday. Again, all I can say at this point is that we had a very thorough discussion on a number of these issues. And I'm sure the scrutiny will continue over the next month or so as we get closer to the hearing date.”
