Errant ball breaks camera during Tigers-Guardians MLB playoff match

MLB Postseason Game Takes Unexpected Turn

In a surprising moment during the MLB postseason on Tuesday, a camera positioned behind home plate was knocked out during the Guardians Wild Card Game against the Detroit Tigers. The incident occurred while Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal was facing off against Guardians hitter Angel Martinez.

Skubal delivered a blazing 100 mph fastball, which missed the barrel of Martinez’s bat and struck the camera instead. The camera shattered, drawing the attention of the players and officials who were initially unaware of the mishap. Once the damage was visible on the field, Groundskeepers rushed to clean up the mess of broken glass.

Meanwhile, Skubal had a remarkable start to the game, demonstrating his prowess by achieving 14 strikeouts over seven innings and allowing only three hits. However, in a pivotal moment of the game, the Guardians managed to tie things up. After Martinez reached base on an infield single, Skubal walked Jose Ramirez. Then, after two strikeouts, Gabriel Arias hit a high chopper that allowed Martinez to score from second base.

When the Tigers regained the lead, it was thanks to a sacrifice bunt from Zach McKinstry that allowed Riley Green to score, making it 2-1. This game was especially crucial, as it was one of only three wildcard series, highlighting the intense competition among the eight teams on Tuesday.

Both teams are familiar with each other, having recently battled for the AL Central title, which Cleveland ultimately won, securing home-field advantage in the postseason.
