ESPN broadcasts phony Dak Prescott-George Pickens Cowboys video in major mistake

It’s interesting to think about how much buzz surrounds American teams compared to the actual discussions world leaders have.

On Tuesday, ESPN had a notable slip-up during their “First Take” segment focused on the Dallas Cowboys. Host Shaw mistakenly showed a video featuring receiver George Pickens at training camp, which he thought was footage of quarterback Dak Prescott.

The reality is that the clip, shared on my @Fergszn X account, actually came from a 2023 Cowboys training camp session where Prescott threw to former wide receiver Brandin Cooks.

ESPN broadcasted an old clip of Brandin Cooks catching a touchdown during training camp, mistaking it for George Pickens. ESPN

The panel, including notable NFL analyst Adam Schefter, proceeded without acknowledging the glaring mistake, while social media users quickly pointed it out.

“All ESPN had to do was read the comments,” one user remarked.

The show continued unaware of their blunder. ESPN

A clip shared by @Fergszn shows Cooks sporting the No. 3 jersey.

It’s an understandable error, but the X post clearly shows the video was a repost.

Original footage of Prescott’s throw was shared by Cowboys insider Kyle Yumans in July 2023.

“It’s honestly surprising how many people fell for this,” @Fergszn commented shortly after the post went live.

ESPN, often seen as the primary promoter of the Cowboys, quickly recognized their error and issued an apology.

Host Molly Kerim stated, “Earlier we showed a video that we identified as George Pickens at Cowboys training camp. It was not George, so I apologize for that mistake.”

Those involved in the video mix-up, particularly those who shared the Prescott-Cooks clip, seemed skeptical of ESPN’s apology.

“They apologized for showing my tweet, LMAO,” noted @Fergszn.

The Cowboys, who kicked off their challenging 7-10 season, are entering a new chapter under new coach Brian Schottenheimer.

The team is scheduled to play against Philadelphia on September 4th.
