Rex Ryan believes Micah Parsons did a “terrible” thing to himself on Sunday.
On Monday's “The Get Up,” former Jets coach and former offensive lineman Damian Woody criticized the Cowboys star for his comments about Dallas' coaching staff after Sunday's 34-6 loss to the Eagles. He blamed the linebackers.
Parsons said he feels bad for the Cowboys' veteran players because the team's season is out of control compared to head coach Mike McCarthy, but he also praised McCarthy's efforts. Ta.
“You're going to give up time with your family, you're going to give up all kinds of things in your life, and you're going to be terrible as a result. I don't care how talented he is, that's complete BS . . . If you worked half as hard as the damn coach, you probably would have played every game,'' Ryan said, referring to Parsons' recent injury that caused him to miss four games. “Maybe your team isn't just a bunch of hoodlums who lie down every week like you do. How about a football team? We're going to sell out the coach. That's a bunch of crocks…you know. street.”
The Cowboys are going nowhere under McCarthy, and it appears Dak Prescott's season may be over as he coaches his final game for the franchise against Dallas, who is currently 3-6.
While the players should know this could be McCarthy's fate, Parsons raised some eyebrows with his comments about the coach's future after Sunday's loss.
McCarthy is in the final year of his contract, and the Cowboys made a controversial decision to keep him after last season ended with a blowout playoff loss at home to the Packers.
“That's above my pay grade, whether Mike's going to be coaching next year or not,” Parsons said. “Aside from what the coach says, Mike can leave here and go anywhere.'' The guy who I think is kind of bad is the guy who [guard] I wanted to have a trophy for Zach Martin and the guys who are probably retiring in their final year.
“You want to win games and do great against these legends who have put in more time and effort than Mike McCarthy. So I feel a lot of sympathy and hurt for those guys.”
Ryan, who also coached the Bills after being fired by the Jets at the end of 2014, showed he can still hit Parsons with his fastball when needed.
Ryan really didn't like the line about McCarthy's lack of investment compared to others.
“That's a complete no-no,” Ryan said. “Coaches are on the field some days 20 hours a day, at least two or three days a week. The hours they put in are unparalleled. Mike McCarthy, he doesn't deserve this awful comment. He's not like that. There are some bad coaches out there, but none of them deserve this much effort as a coach, I'm just telling you. Yo”
Woody, who played for the Patriots, Jets and Lions during his 12-year career, said he's never heard a player make similar comments after a game.
He then criticized Parsons for having a podcast, “The Edge with Micah Parsons,'' suggesting that the platform gives him the courage to make controversial statements.
“Who the hell does Micah Parsons think he's saying things like that after a game?” Brother, you've missed all these games with injuries, and last time I checked, head The coach is a Super Bowl winning coach and you know the season hasn't gone the way everyone expected and that's all, but for you to be in the locker room right after your team gets beat. Sit back and take the coaching clothes off like that, and look at that happening with all the boys on the podcast here in the locker room,” Woody said. “They like to spout and say things like this.
Woody then compared the current generation of players to previous generations.
“There was a time when there was some respect and civility in the locker room, because at the end of the day, it was about us. We didn't try hard enough. We all did a terrible job. , I get it,” he said. “And you're going to come out here and talk about the head coach, and you're basically saying that your head coach isn't doing his job and he's not putting in the effort to try and prepare the team. I think that’s a bunch of BS guys, I really do.”
“We can sit here and laugh and do things and be shocked, but what Micah Parsons did to Mike McCarthy in that situation was disrespectful. Because, again, I know that's not the outcome that Mike McCarthy wants, but I know that guy's broke.'' Just go out there every day and try to win. But then one of the star players comes to the game and says, “Hey, I can't ride this.'' ”
The Cowboys will look to get back into the win column next Monday night at home against the Texans, but ESPN personality Chris Russo wants nothing to do with the game.
