ESPN reporter Katie Burns told CNN that she believes transgender athletes in women’s sports have a physical advantage in some, but not all, competitions.
Burns speaks with CNN host Jake Tapper claimed that Science supports her claim that male-born trans athletes have a physical advantage over women, but that advantage doesn’t mean much for each sport, Fox Sports reported.
“I think it depends on what you mean by supporting it. My reporting shows that the reality is that from a scientific perspective, we know that there are differences between the sexes, and that those differences translate into athletic performance. Barnes told Tapper.
“But when you look at the widespread restrictions at all levels of sport, it is very difficult to say that they are scientifically supported in all cases,” she exclaimed.
“So when it comes to individual and team sports and the level of competition, what’s good for swimming doesn’t necessarily apply to basketball,” Burns said. “So the idea that transgender women will always have an advantage in any sport, regardless of medical changes, is something that I don’t think is supported by the scientific literature at this time.”
Burns’ inference that transgender athletes have some physical advantage over women does not imply that transgender athletes have any physical advantage over women, regardless of the type of sport they play. It’s a step away from radical transgender activists who say no.

Barnes’ comments came after the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) decided to approve measures to prevent men who identify as women from infiltrating women’s sports. .
The NAIA Council of Presidents passed the policy by a 20-0 vote, replacing a previous ban policy that only covered postseason competition.
The NAIA is not the only organization to begin blocking men from competing in the women’s category. For example, the Florida-based NXXT Women’s Pro Tour updated its policy in March to allow only biological women to compete and ban transgender players from participating in events.
Last July, cycling’s international governing body, the International Cycling Union (UCI), moved to officially ban male-born athletes from competing in the women’s category. The move comes just a month after British Cycling’s decision to ban men from competing as women.

Several other sports have also moved to ban trans athletes from competing as women.
In September 2022, international rugby passed a rule banning male-born athletes from competing as women. Also in December, Professional Disc Golf banned men from competing as women, and the International Sportfishing Federation banned men from competing as women last October.
