Kirk Herbstreit's wild ride may turn out to be the craziest day of his career.

The main color commentator for ABC's college football broadcasts started his day in Eugene, Oregon, as co-host of “College Game Day.”

The GameDay staff, without 89-year-old Lee Corso for the second week in a row, prepared for Saturday night's game between the No. 3 Ducks and No. 2 Ohio State in Oregon.

However, there was a little problem. The game was a Big Ten contest and was broadcast on NBC, with the main game on ABC being the Red River rivalry between No. 1 Texas and No. 18 Oklahoma (which aired on ABC). .

Normally, Herbstreit broadcasts the 7:30 p.m. ET game on ABC, but this assignment was four hours early. Play-by-play announcer Chris Fowler had already arrived at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, and Herbstreit had to get there.

So, for the first time, he left the “GameDay” set and actually performed part of the show from an Oregon highway, presumably on his way to the airport.

To make the day even longer, Herbstreit began broadcasting at 6 a.m. Oregon time, and Texas vs. Oklahoma kicked off at 3:30 p.m. ET.

“Everything is going well. It's going really fast right now,” Herbstreit said on the road.

“That drive was deathly cold. Who ordered a convertible??” Herbstreit posted to X while flying over Salt Lake City. “Whatever it takes to get to the Red River Rivalry in Dallas for the 3:30pm ET kick. It's the first time I've ever left mid-show in hopes of making it to the game I'm calling. is.”

Herb Streit scored a close goal and did not arrive in Dallas until just 45 minutes before kickoff. He posted a video of police escorting him out of the stadium at 3:25 p.m. ET, five minutes before the scheduled kickoff.

The 55-year-old is used to long days, traveling and juggling two duties in one day. Even last week, he attended “GameDay” in Berkeley, Calif., and then called the Arkansas-Tennessee game in Fayetteville.

But Herbstreit doesn't need to worry about next week. He will be in Austin, Texas, all day for the highly anticipated Texas-Georgia game.
