One team appears to be still waiting for 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers to sign with them.
And that team isn’t the sharpest tool in Shed as far as ESPN’s Marcus Spears is concerned.
“If you’re waiting for Aaron Rodgers, I think you’re as stupid as a rock box.” Spears said ahead of the first round NFL draft on Thursday night.. “If any organization in the NFL waits for Aaron Rodgers to tell you whether or not you’re going to play football, you’re as stupid as a rock box.”
The Pittsburgh Steelers, rumoured to be Rogers’ future home, seemed to have ended with a game waiting before the draft.
“We were told that the Steelers had communicated with Aaron Rodgers earlier in the week. NFL insider Jocina Anderson reported after the first round of the draft.
Now, Pittsburgh shockedly handed both Chedur Sanders and Jackson Dirt, drafting a defensive lineman instead with a pick 21st in the first round.
Perhaps the Steelers actually got a decision from Rogers before the draft? Potentially a private commitment to Pittsburgh?
This position could certainly have been prioritized in Round 1, as Mason Rudolph and Skyler Thompson are the only current quarterbacks on the Steelers roster.
And while Sanders and Dirt are still on the board on Thursday for Pittsburgh’s first round pick, it may have been the perfect time to address those needs, the Steelers unexpectedly took Oregon defensive lineman Derrick Harmon.
Currently, apart from trading, they don’t have another draft pick until the third round at Pick No. 83.
Sanders is still on the board for a potential trade-up to acquire him, but it is increasingly likely that Pittsburgh is doing exactly what Spears believes they shouldn’t: waiting for Rogers.
In that case, Spears doesn’t see a world where movement greatly promotes the Steelers.
“When I went through all of this with the New York Jets, that was the conversation. [Rodgers] I’ll be a Super Bowl candidate,” Spears said.
“Pittsburgh’s Aaron Rodgers won’t be in the Super Bowl.”
