Étoile to Andor: the seven best shows to stream this week | Television & radio

This week’s pick
étoile

Amy Sherman Palladino’s previous drama, The Mersey Mrs. Maisel, lifted the curtains in the world of stand-up comedy in the ’60s. This series works similarly to ballet (currently). Following the twin companies in Paris and New York, they manage a high-class crew of dancers led by the cartoonishly shaky Cheyenne (Louderage) while balancing artistic and commercial sustainability. It’s full of backstabs, bad behavior and waspish wit, but Snark is covered in moments of sincerity as the long-standing performances showcase the artistry that makes all the behind-the-scenes plot worthwhile. Charlotte Gainesbourg, Luke Kirby and Simon Carrow are also stars.

Tea cup

Returning to the farm… a teacup. Photo: Peacock/Mark Hill

It is a slow-burning horror series set on a farm in Georgia and is inspired by Robert McCummon’s novel Stinger. For a while, the nature of the threat facing ranchers is interestingly vague. There is a suggestion that danger may be psychological along with internal tension. But soon the teacups enter the realm of a more traditional and less satisfying SF chiller. I have a creepy child who seems to be able to predict the future. It’s impressively bloody in the place, as it’s not like that without the thrill, even if it’s a bit cheap.

The Secret of the Penguin

All nature documentary fans know that Penguins are one of the most extraordinary creatures on the planet, but this three-part series suggests that we didn’t know half of them. Speaking by Blake Lively, it follows the penguin colonies from the Arctic, where they are most associated, and we see that these birds are increasingly seen in towns. Sadly, this is another outcome of the climate crisis, but despite the fact that humanity is making life tough for Penguins, the show is a testament to their extraordinary power of adaptability and endurance.

Andor

While followers of the Star Wars Universe already know exactly where Cassian Andru ends at the end of this first series, they’re all Rogue One: After all, it’s fun to map routes. This is one of the most accomplished additions for Canon over the years, bringing humor and humanity to the world’s construction, boasting an incredible cast that includes Diegorna, Genevieve O’Reilly and Adria Arjona. The series is both more personal and more broadly political. What turns a cynical, isolated man like Andor into a rebel? Disney+, starting Wednesday, April 23rd

Battle Camp

The show will attract many contenders from Netflix’s not necessarily glorious reality TV slate to compete in the champion-style deathmatch champion. Expect to see a lot of people who are very vaguely aware of from shows such as moles. Takeshi Castle, there’s a hues of celebrity bear hunt, which is a knockout in some games, but all the stupidity has a big money on the table too, with $250,000 waiting for the winner.

you

Psycho Killer… you. Photo: Clifton Prescod/Netflix

You weren’t a subtle show, but you’ll come out of the window of the final season as this psychodrama comes out in the flames of glory. Penn Bajlie’s murder smoothie jaw is back in New York. He finds a measure of fame as the husband of philanthropist Kate (Charlotte Richie). However, the journalist has unearthed a fatal story about Kate’s past. And they don’t easily become silent. Almost everything about you is ridiculous and it remains an issue from a perspective standpoint, essentially asking the viewer to root the serial killer. Still, it remains a strangely observable guilty pleasure at the end.

Wondla

Starring Janine Mason as Eva, this healthy sci-fi animation is a robot-raised teenage girl after an apocalyptic event on Earth. Despite this singular upbringing, she is surprisingly well coordinated. We finally saw her search for another human (a giant late company sometimes called Otto). This time she finds some and wanders around an enclosed city-state called New Attica. But it’s soon clear that the new Attica isn’t all there is to it.
