EU foreign policy chief on Ukraine-Russia talks: 'Any quick fix is a dirty deal'

Kaja Karas, head of foreign policy for the European Union, said that “quick revisions” in building peace agreements between Ukraine and Russia will lead to “dirty deals,” and that other Europeans will not be involved. He said that it should not be done without it.

“To play the Russian courts, we shouldn't take anything from the table before negotiations begin, and that's what they want,” Karas said ahead of a meeting with the NATO Defense Minister on Thursday. . “Why are you giving them everything they want even before negotiations begin? It softened and it never worked out.”

President Trump spoke to both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Voldimir Zelensky on Wednesday. The president said the order would come up with a peace agreement between two Eastern European countries and end the nearly three-year war.

He first spoke to Putin, then called Zelensky. Zelensky said on Wednesday that Ukraine is ready for a peace deal.

“Together with the United States, we are celebrating the next step to stop the attacks on Russia and ensuring lasting, reliable peace. Let's do that, as President Trump said.” Zelensky said.

Trump also told reporters Wednesday that Ukraine is unlikely to regain the borders the country had before the annexation of Crimea in 2014. Defense Secretary Pete Hegses said Ukraine's path to NATO may not be a “realistic outcome of a negotiated settlement.”

Karas rebutted Hegses' views by stating that NATO membership was “the most powerful guarantee and in fact the cheapest security guarantee.”

The recent actions of Trump and his administration have been found among European leaders seeking to join the negotiation table, as development on the Russian-Ukraine front is likely to have a major impact on other European countries. An alarm has been issued.

“If a contract is signed behind our back, it simply won't work because we need Europeans to carry out this transaction because of all sorts of contracts,” Karas said Thursday. “We need Ukrainians to carry out this deal. That means someone agrees to something and everyone else says, “It's fine, you agree, but we won't follow this.” ”

“The Ukrainians resist and we will support them,” added Karas.

On Thursday, during a visit to the nuclear power plant, Zelensky said Ukraine must be involved in the peace deal but that “plans to stop Putin have been resolved.” He also said it was “not comfortable” for Trump to dial the Kremlin leader first before contacting himself.

Crows were not the only EU leaders who raised concerns about Trump's Wednesday call.

The French Minister of Defense, Lithuania, Devil Sacarien, said that the European continent should not fall under the illusion that Trump and Putin find a solution for all of us. He spoke in opposition to “peace through weakness.” According to To Reuters.
