- EUR/USD rose over 0.78%, supported by the potential impact of US tariffs and a weaker dollar environment.
- Technical analysis points out that EUR/USD will become a buyer's market if it moves above 1.0400, with all eyes on further resistance levels.
- Short-term support and resistance are defined at 1.0222 and 1.0500, with the 50-day SMA becoming an important watch at 1.0558.
EUR/USD rose more than 0.78%, boosted by a Washington Post article that mentioned three of President-elect Trump's top aides and said tariffs would be targeted at specific sectors. The pair is trading at 1.0388, above the opening price.
EUR/USD Price Prediction: Technical Outlook
EUR/USD ended 2024 at around 1.0260 before buyers stepped in and pushed the exchange rate above 1.0300, hitting a four-day high of 1.0436 following a Washington Post headline.
Although the Relative Strength Index (RSI) is trending higher, it remains bearish, but momentum appears to favor buyers.
If buyers want to push EUR/USD higher, they need to decisively clear 1.0400 and then 1.0500. If above this, the next resistance will be at the 50-day simple moving average (SMA) at 1.0558 and then at 1.0600.
On the other hand, if the bears intervene and keep the major price below 1.0400, the pullback towards last year's low of 1.0222 could become even worse. If it weakens further, parity will emerge as the next support level.
