Germany go into this round-of-16 tie as hot favourites. They’re on home soil, they’ve been impressive in sweeping aside Scotland and Hungary, and they maintained their unbeaten 2024 record by equalising late against Switzerland. Julian Nagelsmann is finally getting a tune out of a team trending in the right direction just in time for their Euro 2024 party.

But! Achtung! While Germany have the better of the overall head-to-head against Denmark, with 15 wins in 28 meetings, it’s much more even in competitive fixtures, with two victories apiece. The most recent one is Germany’s, a 2-1 win the groups at Euro 2012, but the most important is Denmark’s, their famous victory in the Euro 92 final. And that game in 2012 is Denmark’s only defeat in their last six matches against Germany, a sequence during which they’ve won two and drawn three. So this is no foregone conclusion. Kick off is at 8pm BST. It’s on! Oh, and while we’re on the subject of Denmark …

Important Events
Here is how both teams finished in the group stage: Are these games worth revisiting? At first glance, not. But who are the people telling the tales? Rob Smyth and John Brewin! Click through and let them take you on a journey of retro wonder back to earlier this week, when we were younger and the world of possibility lay before us.

Germany made three changes to the starting 11 from their 1-1 draw with Switzerland in the quarter-finals. David Raum and Nico Schlotterbeck will replace Maximilian Mittelstedt and the suspended Jonathan Tah in defence, while Leroy Sané will replace Florian Wirtz in attack. Schlotterbeck will line up at centre-back alongside Antonio Rüdiger, whose fitness has been a doubt. Niklas Füllkrug, who has two goals in three games off the bench, will have to once again assume the role of super-sub.
Denmark made two changes to their line-up following the goalless draw with Serbia. Andreas Skov Olsen and Thomas Delaney replaced Jonas Wind and the suspended Morten Hjulmand, while Christian Eriksen has recovered from illness and will retain his place in midfield, with Rasmus Hjulund also keeping his shirt despite yet to score a goal at Euro 2024.

preamble
Germany enters this round of 16 match as heavy favourites. After impressive displays at home to dominate Scotland and Hungary and a late equaliser against Switzerland to maintain their unbeaten record in 2024, coach Julian Nagelsmann knows his team is finally heading in the right direction in time for Euro 2024.
But! Aktun! Germany has won 15 of 28 head-to-head matches against Denmark, making them the better team overall, but the matchups are fairly even with two wins each in official matches. The most recent victory was Germany’s 2-1 win in the Euro 2012 group stage, but most importantly Denmark’s victory in the Euro 92 final. And that 2012 match is Denmark’s only loss in their last six matches against Germany, with two wins and three draws. So this is not a foregone conclusion. Kick-off is at 8pm BST. It has begun! Oh, and speaking of Denmark…
