Conor Gallagher He revealed he was rejected by Scotland as a teenager – the midfielder is of Scottish descent through his maternal grandfather – and it wasn’t always clear he’d make it to England.

“My dad’s side is Irish and my mum’s side is Scottish,” Gallagher says. “When I was 15 or 16 I wasn’t good enough to play for the England youth teams so I think I trained with one of the Scottish teams to see what I was like, but I wasn’t good enough for them either.”

I felt that it was meaningful Before John McGinn performed the famous Bavarian dance as Scotland were welcomed to their training base in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, there was no interview with the Aston Villa midfielder – not one at all. For a brief moment on Sunday night, McGinn and Scotland had some fun. They didn’t come to Germany as circus performers. Their only focus is to get to the European Championships. Nobody’s here to have their bellies tickled.
