“We all wanted to make history and make the people of England proud but we fell short of that and expectations fell short.” There are reasons for that and we will analyse it as a team and in the future, but I think it is still a young group. It is really disappointing because we have to get results at some point, but we have experience and there are things we can take from this tournament going forward. If we look at everything negatively, I don’t think anything will change. So it’s important to pick up the good and the bad together and find a way to lead England to victory one day.

Jude Bellingham, who assisted Cole Palmer on the equaliser, told reporters after the match:
“I think we’ve sacrificed a lot over the last few weeks. It’s been very tough lately. We have a busy schedule and coming together at the end of the season to play in our last tournament is tough on the body. We’re mentally and physically exhausted, but to lose like this when we wanted to give everything for our country is really brutal.”
