Here we go then. Who will play Germany in the quarters? We have 90 minutes (or maybe more) to find out. Also I think the commentators are reading my blog as they’ve just used the David v Goliath line I used in my first post.

Hello and welcome to the fourth last 16 match of the Euros. Spain take on Georgia in what feels like a David v Goliath match.

Spain have been one of the most impressive sides in the competition so far and have young talent showcasing what they can do. This is not to say Georgia haven’t been impressive, they have and have become many fans’ second team, but it would be a huge shock if Georgia got the better of Spain today.

But everyone knows the outcome of David v Goliath. The favourites are capable of losing and who better to do so than a nation riding the wave of their success. This is the first-ever European Championships Georgia have played in.

Their group stage was impressive for their first in the competition. The start wasn’t what they would have wanted with a 3-1 loss to Turkey but they followed it up with a 1-1 draw against the Czech Republic and a phenomenal 2-0 win over Portugal.

If they can down Portugal, they can do the same to Spain. But Spain are a slightly different beast, if both teams are on it today we are in for a tasty battle. We’ll take a look at the build-up to the match with manager insight next before team news, expected in the next half an hour.

Important Events
Georgia quickly fell apart. A pinpoint pass came to Kvaratskeria, who smashed the ball into the goal with his thigh. Oh my. Spain is in shock.
Goals! Spain 0-1 Georgia (Kvaratskheria, 18′)
My words. Georgia had the first attack and scored.
16 minKocholashvili gets back on his feet and is able to continue playing, which is a great sight. It seems to be only a matter of time before Spain scores and easily takes a 2-0 lead. Spain are pushing forward again and are awarded another corner kick.
15 minutesFabian’s shot is blocked, the ball falls to Williams, who shoots but Gverasiani gets to it and it’s a corner kick. Williams takes the kick again, but Le Normand and Kocholashvili clash heads and the Georgian is left on the ground. We hope he’s okay.
13 minsWilliams takes the corner quickly, but Georgia clears well and Spain never lets up on the gas.
11 mins: Mamardashvili takes a bow. He’s having a great tournament. Spain gets another corner kick with another goal from Williams. Carvajal has a great touch but the keeper makes a great save. Spain keeps pushing and gets another corner kick.
9 minsA good defensive display by Kocholashvili resulted in a corner kick, Williams received the ball and raced towards goal, but despite a good pass, Kasia cleared it. Spain had 81% possession so far.
8 minutes:
“It’s really strange watching Williams after watching the England game. “As a left winger, playing on the left wing to get width and extend the play – it’s very strange,” Hugh Gordon said.
It’s no wonder what players can do when they find themselves in their favourite positions. Back in the match, Spain continue to increase the pressure.
6 minsYamal had his first chance on the halfway line and after some good running the ball found Pedri who took a great shot only for it to be saved by a superb save from Mamadashvili.
4 minutesSpain push left and right, get to within 20 yards, Fabian has a shot blocked, and the men in red are putting pressure on them from the start.
2 minutesSpain will likely have a lot of possession today, but the question is what Georgia can do when they’re in good form. The favourites had possession early on and made inroads in the box, with Morata going down, but they couldn’t score.
Kickoff! Spain 0-0 Georgia
Let’s get started! Who will face Germany in the quarter-finals? We’ll know in 90 minutes (or more). I also think the commentators are reading my blog. They’re using the same “David vs Goliath” line I used in my first post.
The players came onto the pitch as the national anthem was about to begin. Can Georgia pull off a major upset? Or will Spain maintain their momentum in the tournament? We’ll find out soon.
For those who missed it, England beat Slovakia hard but narrowly, with Jude Bellingham scoring a late equaliser and captain Harry Kane scoring the winner in extra time.
10 minute warning! Grab a drink, grab some food, and stretch your legs.

Lamine Yamal joins the Spain national team for the first timethey left his boots behind, him and everyone else. choice They will arrive in Tbilisi to face Georgia in September 2023, but the trunk containing some of their kit is still in Barajas. He tried to finish an evening training session at the Boris Paichadze Stadium in his trainers but couldn’t kick the ball. The following night they scored seven goals. On his debut, the Barcelona winger scored his final goal at 16 years and 57 days old, and the national team got off to a fresh start.
Ten months later, Spain face Georgia again, this time with a place in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 at stake. Lamine Yamal says Spain are the best team in the match, but adds that “if we lose, all we did in the group stage will mean nothing.”
Read the rest of the article:
Ramin Yamal Due to German youth labour laws, Yamal will be able to play in a later kick-off at the Euros. Yamal is 16 and German law says players cannot work after 8pm, but there are exceptions and players can work until 11pm.
“He is showing a maturity beyond his age, but he is growing as a footballer and as a person. We all have a responsibility in the process. We will do our job and let him play, nothing more than that,” Spain coach Luis de la Fuente said.
“We don’t know the German law on whether Mr Ramin has to be removed at 11pm… We don’t think so.”
So who are the stars fans should look out for in this match?
Spain has a number of regular players who can perform magical plays, but the one who is catching people’s attention is 16-year-old Lamine Yamal.
Meanwhile in Georgia, Georges Mikhautadze is the rising star. The Metz forward has scored three goals and provided one assist so far in the tournament. Could he become a hero for his country today?
The winner of this match will face the host nation, Germany. In the quarter-finals. They beat Denmark in the round of 16 last night, but were caught up by Denmark. You can watch that game here.
Please let us know your thoughts. If you’ve read my blog before, you know I love a bit of chit-chat. But let’s do something a little different. What’s your favourite player’s food? For example, Toni Kroos, maybe the ever-reliable but delicious Spaghetti Bolognese? Let me know by email or by X (@rendellx).
We are in the realm of knockout football. If the game remains tied after extra time, it could go to a penalty shootout. But how would Spain and Georgia fare in a shootout? We’ve got a guide to give you all the information you need.
Georgia became the team with neutral fans. And there was a second team for supporters of their country, who were still in the tournament. “First of all, I think we got there because of our performance, our game, but the most important thing people saw was that we are a small country and this was our first time here, but we weren’t afraid,” said entrepreneur Luka Rohoshvili.
“We have shown everyone that we can compete with any team. We will keep fighting on the pitch until the end. The fans see our players’ body language, this aggression in our games.”
In the match against England, Slovakia were leading with just two minutes remaining before Jude Bellingham equalised and Harry Kane put them ahead 52 seconds into extra time. To follow the game click here:
So the change is Sorry, but we wanted to get the news to you as soon as possible. Spain made a number of changes (10 to be exact), with only Aimery Laporte remaining from their final group game against Albania. Granted, Spain had already qualified for the knockout stage, so they may have been resting a few of their stars.
Meanwhile, Georgia kept the same starting XI that beat Portugal. Who would?
Georgia (5-3-2): Mamardashvili; Kakabadze, Gvereshiani, Kasia, Dvali, Rokhoshvili; Chakvetadze, Kiteishvili, Kocholashvili; Mikautadze, Kvaratskheria. Team news has arrivedSpain is below and Georgia is on the brink of news of change.

Spain vs Georgia predictions
Spain are perhaps the best team in the tournament so far, and Georgia the most entertaining. I was skeptical when Luis de la Fuente took over as Spain manager, but he seems to have accomplished a remarkable feat of changing the football culture. Since winning three consecutive Euros in 2012, Spanish football has remained technically brilliant, but too often the possession game has felt somewhat meaningless. But this time around, thanks to their two wingers, Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal, they have played much more direct and, seemingly, much more dangerous. And yet, despite their overwhelming dominance, they only managed a 1-0 win over Italy.
But as they showed in the group stage, Georgia can be a threat and will relish the chance to attack the space behind Spain through their agile and skilful forwards Georges Mikhautadze and Khubicha Kvaratskheria, but they may need another superb performance from goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili to cause a shock.
verdict Spain’s thrilling victory
England’s match continues Gareth Southgate’s England are currently trailing 1-0 to Slovakia. England’s performance has been lackluster but can they bounce back? Rob Smith explains here:
preamble
Hello and welcome to the fourth leg of the Euros round of 16. Spain will face Georgia in a David vs Goliath type match.
Spain has been one of the most impressive teams in the tournament so far, with a lot of young talent to show for it. That’s not to say Georgia hasn’t been impressive; they have been impressive and are the second team for many fans, but it would be a huge shock if Georgia beat Spain today.
But we all know how David vs Goliath ends. The favourites can lose, and no country deserves to lose more than a country riding a wave of success. This is Georgia’s first European Championship.
Their group stage was an impressive start to the tournament, starting off poorly with a 3-1 defeat to Turkey, but then they drew 1-1 with the Czech Republic and recorded a stunning 2-0 win over Portugal.
If we can beat Portugal, we can do the same against Spain. But Spain is a slightly different opponent, so if both teams are in good form today, we should have an interesting match. Now, let’s take a look at the build-up to the match, with the manager’s thoughts, before the team news, which is due to be announced in the next 30 minutes.
