Europe Pauses to Commemorate VE Day 80 Years Later

On Thursday, the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) was marked across the continent and in the UK, as countless individuals took a moment to reflect on the struggle for freedom during World War II.

The memories surfaced of how Hitler’s regime in Nazi Germany was ultimately defeated after its aggressive invasions of various European nations and its horrifying acts of genocide during the Holocaust, which resulted in vast hatred and the loss of millions of innocent lives.

Tributes were paid to fallen heroes, and there was a collective acknowledgment of how the world was pulled back from the brink of disaster that German Nazism had pushed it towards.

“It’s vital to remember that this is more than just history; to think that it isn’t relevant now is simply incorrect,” British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer stated.

“What we hold dear today—our values of freedom and democracy—is essential.”

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump proclaimed Thursday as a day for the United States to honor its triumph in World War II, suggesting that the nation should recognize its significant contributions during that period more fervently.

“We’re going to celebrate our victory as we should!” he asserted.
