American electric vehicle (EV) maker Fisker filed for bankruptcy on Tuesday.
The California-based electric vehicle company unveiled its Ocean Series vehicles for 2021, which include features like a solar roof, a rotating touchscreen console and the ability to power the owner’s home in an emergency.
in Tuesday’s NoteFisker Inc., a subsidiary of Fisker, said it is in discussions with interested parties regarding “the sale of its debtor holdings and its assets.”
“Fisker has made incredible progress since our founding, bringing the Ocean SUV to market twice as fast as the auto industry expected and delivering on our promise to deliver the world’s most sustainable vehicles,” a Fisker spokesperson said in a statement.
The company said it was proud of its accomplishments, but like other companies, Fisker is facing problems as demand slows.
“Like other companies in the electric vehicle industry, we face a variety of market and macroeconomic headwinds that are impacting our ability to operate efficiently,” the statement said.
The EV company raised concerns about its continued operations in February and subsequently failed to secure investment from a major automaker, most likely Nissan. Reuters reported.
A spokesman said the company had considered all options and determined that a Chapter 11 bankruptcy sale was “the most viable path forward for the company.”

The EV company is the latest in a string of struggling electric-vehicle startups looking to capitalize on the market excitement for green cars. Lordstown Motors and bus maker Arrival have both filed for bankruptcy protection, according to The Wall Street Journal, while others are cutting costs. report.
According to the Associated Press, EV sales are up just 3.3% this year compared with a 47% increase last year.
