Escalation Between Israel and Iran
President Donald Trump is urging Iranian civilians to leave Tehran “immediately.” This call comes on the heels of evacuation warnings issued by Israel to residents in areas they anticipate will be targeted.
On June 15th, the Israeli military disseminated warnings in Arabic and Farsi, encouraging those living near weapon-production facilities in Tehran to evacuate for their own safety, as reported by Reuters.
While the United States is now actively engaged in the Israel-Iran conflict, its involvement is said to be more supportive and defensive rather than taking direct offensive action, according to various Israeli and American media outlets.
“Iran should have signed the ‘deal’ I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” Trump remarked in a post on Truth Social.
This post follows a series of airstrikes exchanged between Israel and Iran, which were initiated by Israeli strikes targeting nuclear facilities above ground.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has consistently emphasized that the aim of these military actions is to negate the threat posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions, which he suggests are nearing the capability to develop a nuclear weapon.
Although the Iranian targets have been primarily aboveground facilities, Iranian officials assert that over 224 Iranians have died, with a significant number being civilians. Conversely, Israeli reports claim that 24 casualties have occurred, all identified as civilians, as of Monday morning.
Moreover, Israel has announced the successful destruction of at least two of Iran’s three uranium enrichment plants.
Trump has repeatedly called for Iran to return to negotiations, but his latest remarks hint at a diminishing window for diplomatic solutions. Additionally, he took a jab at former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who has opposed American involvement in a Middle Eastern conflict.
“Somebody please explain to kooky Tucker Carlson that, ‘IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!’” Trump added.
“AMERICA FIRST means many GREAT things, including the fact that, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!” he concluded.
