Evacuation orders issued due to Springs and Crown fires in Moreno Valley and Acton

Residents of Southern California were on edge Friday as two wildfires ignited within hours, consuming hundreds of acres and prompting evacuation orders from authorities.

The rapidly advancing flames spread through brush and canyons in Riverside and Los Angeles counties, leading to emergency responses aimed at protecting nearby communities.

In Riverside County, the Springs Fire began shortly after 11 a.m. along Gilman Springs Road, near Moreno Valley, according to CAL FIRE.

By 2 p.m., the fire had already incinerated over 2,000 acres.

To combat the flames, more than 100 personnel arrived, supported by 23 engines, helicopters, bulldozers, and air tankers, working swiftly to keep the fire away from residential areas.

In the vicinity of the fire, an evacuation order was issued for neighboring homes, and Gilman Springs Road was closed between Alessandro Road and Bridge Street.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, officials cautioned that strong winds could exacerbate the situation, fueling further expansion.

Less than two hours later, a second fire, known as the Crown Fire, erupted in Acton, close to Crown Valley Road and Soledad Canyon Road, also reported by CAL FIRE.

This fire swiftly spread through dry brush, consuming nearly 300 acres by 2 p.m.

Evacuation orders and warnings were issued for the area, leading to the deployment of fire planes, engines, and ground crews to protect homes and structures from being compromised.

Authorities are looking into the fire’s cause and are working to establish containment lines.

Fire officials emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant, adhering to evacuation orders, and staying updated via official channels as both fires continue to challenge firefighters in the field.
