Evangelical Leaders Urge Trump to Guide with Divine Insight in the Era of AI

Evangelical Leaders Call for AI Advisory Committee

A group of prominent evangelical leaders has written to President Trump, suggesting the formation of a presidential advisory committee focused on the significant ethical dilemmas posed by artificial intelligence (AI).

“We propose either establishing a new advisory committee or empowering an existing council to engage with the crucial questions surrounding AI—not just about its capabilities, but also about its moral implications,” they stated. They emphasized a desire for the U.S. to actively prevent AI from threatening societal values. Bringing together individuals of faith, ethicists, and those who prioritize humanity’s best interests rather than commercial gains is vital,” the letter asserted.

Interestingly, there’s been talk of Trump being dubbed the “AI President,” which some supporters attribute to divine providence, as reported by various sources.

“Among your many achievements, you are regarded as the AI President. We believe, as people of faith, that your leadership comes from a higher power, especially in guiding AI,” the letter noted.

About a dozen influential evangelical figures signed this letter. This includes Rev. Johnny Moore, leader of the Christian Leadership Council, Pastor Samuel Rodriguez, who heads the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, and Tim Clinton, president of the American Christian Counselors Association.

After highlighting Christianity’s pro-science stance, the leaders pointed out the historical contributions of Christians in founding the first hospitals and universities in different regions, underscoring the role of faith in scientific progress.

“We, as people of faith, recognize the urgency of developing advanced AI technologies to tackle diseases and practical issues. However, we stress that these tools should not surpass human autonomy. The spiritual and ethical implications of creating such intelligence raise complex theological queries that demand careful contemplation,” the letter elaborated.

On a related note, Moore, who frequently speaks on this topic, indicated the need for swift and prudent action regarding leadership’s role in this domain.

“We must outpace other nations in innovation and quickly navigate this new era of AI. However, if we rush without care, we could potentially unleash destructive consequences,” Moore, identifying himself as an ‘AI Accelerator,’ cautioned.
