Evangeline Lilly reveals she has brain damage from a TBI following a boulder accident

Evangeline Lilly Provides Health Update Following Accident

Evangeline Lilly recently shared an important update regarding her health after a serious accident that took place in May 2025.

In an Instagram video posted on January 2, the 46-year-old actress, known for her role in “Lost,” disclosed that she suffered a traumatic brain injury after falling and striking her head on a rock last year.

“The verdict is in…I have a TBI brain injury,” she captioned the post. “While I was relieved to find out my cognitive decline wasn’t just due to perimenopause, it was also a bit unsettling to realize the significant effort needed to reverse it. Thank you for your ongoing support, care, and prayers 🌺.”

In the video, she remarked, “I’m stepping into this new year, the Year of the Horse, with some bad news regarding concussions,” and expressed gratitude to her fans for their concern about her health.

She elaborated, saying, “I received my scan results, and it appears that nearly all areas of my brain are dysfunctional.” Lilly shared her journey toward recovery, emphasizing that her medical team needs to identify the root cause and work diligently toward healing.

“While I was relieved to know that my cognitive decline was not limited to perimenopause, I was also uncomfortable to learn how much of an uphill battle it would be to reverse cognitive decline.”

Despite the challenges ahead, Lilly found a silver lining, noting that her injury allowed her to have a more tranquil end to the year. “Ever since the incident, my cognitive function has been slower, which helped me finish 2025 in a more peaceful state. Honestly, I think this was probably the most restful Christmas I’ve had in 14 years since becoming a mom. So, I guess that’s a good thing,” she shared.

Lilly expressed her gratitude towards her fans for their kind messages and concluded by reflecting on how blessed she feels to experience another day and year on this beautiful planet.

Michelle Pfeiffer, who starred alongside Lilly in “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” sent her well wishes in the comments: “You’re a warrior. Nothing, not even this, can defeat you, my friend. ❤️.”

The actress initially disclosed her injury in May 2025 by posting a photo of her bloodied face on Substack, describing how she had fainted on the beach and fell face-first onto a rock. She later included more images on Instagram, showcasing her injuries.

She explained that her doctors were primarily concerned with her loss of consciousness rather than her physical injuries. Although she has had experiences of “absences” and fainting spells since childhood, doctors have never provided a clear reason for them.

“My partner says I look lifeless when I black out,” she wrote on Substack. “He gets extremely worried and checks for my breathing. He wasn’t there on the beach, but I did lose consciousness again on the way to the hospital.”
