Even Michael Wilbon is criticizing ESPN for its Cowboys fixation

Even Michael Wilbon is criticizing ESPN for its Cowboys fixation

Discussion on ESPN’s Focus on American Teams

ESPN seems to have a strong emphasis on American teams, and this notion comes from a prominent voice in sports media.

During Monday’s episode of “Relentless Suspension,” Michael Wilbon addressed the media presence of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones at training camp. He pointed out, “They’re not falling behind in any significant way.” Wilbon expressed indifference toward the attention Jones receives, noting that much of the network’s coverage concentrates on the Cowboys and their owner.

The Cowboys haven’t made it back to the conference championship since their last Super Bowl win in 1995, a historical highlight for the franchise.

Despite this, Jones leads a team valued at $11 billion, placing them at the top of the NFL franchise rankings. He’s known for being vocally influential on league matters and is not shy about sharing his opinions regarding his team.

This summer, he made waves when fans shouted “Re-sign Parsons” during practice, a scene reminiscent of last year’s chants when wide receiver Ceedee Lamb was looking for a contract extension.

Wilbon also critiqued his own network, stating, “I don’t care about the Cowboys. Yet, most of the programming here is focused on Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.”

He mentioned hearing the chants but did not find them particularly noteworthy. “Anyone around might expect some voices to rise. It just felt bigger last year,” he said.

The commentary made waves in the sports media world, with many highlighting Wilbon’s lack of interest in the narrative surrounding Jones.

Wilbon said plainly, “Jerry Jones has nothing of interest to share; trying to interpret his comments is pointless.” He added that Jones enjoys being in the spotlight and having conversations with reporters.

Wilbon concluded, “He’s free to be his grumpy self, but his words hold no significance for me. It’s just part of who he is.”
