Mitchell Robinson’s Impressive Performance

Mitchell Robinson showcased yet another remarkable statistic.

After posting nine offensive rebounds in just 16 minutes during the prior game, the Knicks’ starting center recorded a plus-40 in only 17 minutes in Sunday’s 134-98 victory against the Nets.

Even Robinson seemed taken aback by his own performance.

“You said plus 40. Minute? Damn,” he remarked.

His stats also included two blocks, two steals, eight rebounds (three on the offensive end), and eight points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting. He has almost single-handedly dominated the last couple of games.

“You just have to go out there and play hard,” Robinson said. “It feels great. I wasn’t even aware of that. I’m just focusing on getting better.”

Additionally, the coaching staff honored Robinson with the title of Defensive Player of the Year for the Knicks.

He played a key role in limiting the Nets to a shooting percentage of 40 percent.

“Honestly, I’m not too focused on plus-minus, but this is another impressive stat,” Coach Mike Brown commented. “He keeps producing exceptional numbers. To see him impact the game that much in such a short time was incredible.”

With nearly three weeks into the regular season, Brown hasn’t implemented many plays yet.

“No worries. We still play by concept and just read and react,” the coach explained. “The players are gradually getting used to it.”

During the preseason, Brown highlighted his goal of establishing a quicker pace, ball movement, and instinctual offense before integrating a full playbook.

A mix of timing, injuries, and preferences delayed that plan.

“It’s mostly intentional because ultimately, I think it’s beneficial for them to play without needing a specific play, which could complicate things for the defense,” he added.

Ariel Hukporti, the opening day starter, remains sidelined, and Brown is unsure about his return.

“I’m not certain. He might fit in with ten players, but right now he doesn’t make the top ten, so he has to be prepared. When his chance comes, he just needs to go out and put in the effort both offensively and defensively,” Brown noted.

Hukporti, a second-year center from Germany, has started twice this season in Robinson’s absence but has struggled and hasn’t made a significant impact since.
