Former President Donald Trump told Breitbart News that he plans to aggressively ramp up his campaign with roughly 40 days left until the election, holding events in battleground states as well as Republican and Democratic states.
“We're going to be doing a lot of campaigning and visiting a lot of places, not just in the battleground states, because I don't think we should leave out the states that are automatically with us,” Trump said in a nearly hour-long phone interview Sunday. “We should reward them for their loyalty, so it's not just the battleground states, but we're going to be focusing on the battleground states.”
President Trump announced plans to visit Aurora, Colorado, a blue state, and Springfield, Ohio, a red state, to highlight the immigration crisis that is affecting both communities.
“I just can't understand how anyone could have people in office right now, especially her, voting for her. They've destroyed our country,” Trump told Breitbart News. “Our border has become the laughing stock of the world. Countries all over the world are sending their criminals to America. Prisons, gangsters, terrorists, drug dealers, they're all being sent to America. Every state is a border state. Beautiful communities in the Midwest are being destroyed. They're being sent there. You see it more in Aurora, Colorado. The Venezuelans are literally taking over. The governor has no idea what to do. It's all so bad. I think people are going to vote in a big way.”
But beyond these upcoming trips, Trump has a packed schedule in battleground states this week alone. As Breitbart News reported, Trump will hold an event in Pennsylvania on Monday focused on stopping the Chinese Communist Party's purchase of U.S. farmland, followed by a large rally in the state in the evening. On Tuesday, Trump will campaign in Savannah, Georgia. On Wednesday, he will return to Charlotte, North Carolina (where he was also in the state over the weekend), and on Friday he has several events scheduled in Michigan.
Trump also told Breitbart News he is considering holding rallies in Virginia, Maine, New Hampshire, Minnesota, New Mexico, New Jersey and possibly New York. He held a large rally at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island last weekend and has campaigned in New York and New Jersey throughout the year.
“They're having a rally because nobody else can have a rally. Nobody else can get that kind of crowd,” Trump said. “The Nassau Coliseum would have been three times fuller. Several networks did stories saying it was amazing and there was nowhere else they could sell 500 seats. The place has about the same capacity as Madison Square Garden, that's how big it is. It was full, floor and all, I think, 22,000, 23,000 people. And there were at least 25,000 people that couldn't get in outside.”
But in addition to visiting battleground states and some blue states, President Trump also plans to visit red states, including a trip to Springfield, Ohio, and a trip to Alabama for the Alabama-Georgia football game this Saturday.
“Here's an example: On Saturday, I'm going to Alabama to watch the Alabama-Georgia football game,” Trump said. “It's going to be a great game. It's going to be a big crowd. It's big football and it's big politics.”
University of Alabama officials Confirmed This weekend, Trump is expected to attend Saturday's big game at Bryant-Denny Stadium, which is expected to draw a large crowd. The stadium can hold over 100,000 people, and the game is between Alabama and Georgia (which obviously is based in the battleground state of Georgia), so Trump's reception there is likely to be huge.
But beyond Trump rallies and events, the former president told Breitbart News he thoroughly enjoyed the town hall he held with Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders in Michigan last week and is looking forward to more similar events in the future, as well as more unconventional media appearances, such as his record-breaking interview on Greg Gutfeld's Fox News Channel show.
“What I love, and what people have been asking me to do, is kind of a town hall meeting we did the other day in Michigan, hosted by Sarah Huckabee Sanders,” Trump said. “People loved it. They loved Gutfeld, and Gutfeld got the highest ratings ever. They love those interviews. Those interviews are very in-depth. It's done with a smile, but it's not easy. They loved that show. He got the highest ratings ever. He won that week on television.”
