Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) predicts that “every Democrat” in the U.S. Senate will “vote yes” on the continuing resolution (CR) spending bill, which contains many irrelevant and expensive provisions. did.
Monaka interview On “The Alex Marlowe Show” with Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlowe, Hawley was asked if Republicans could “stop” CR or if they were “just powerless.” Hawley explained that CR would need a “two-thirds supermajority” to pass in the House.
“Can I stop?'' Marlowe asked. “Are we just powerless here? It's like the Democrats have the money to run here. But is there a way to slow or stop this in the House or the Senate? ?”
“Certainly, I mean, in the House, the way Mike Johnson is doing it, for example, it would take a two-thirds supermajority to pass this bill,” Hawley explained. “That means he's not only going to need all the Democratic votes, but he's going to need over 80 Republicans as well. So he needs Republicans to say, 'No, we're not going to vote for that.' Just say.”
When asked about the chances of CR passing in the Senate and whether Republican senators could have a “chance to stop it,” Hawley said “every Democrat” in the Senate wants CR to pass. I predicted they would vote yes.
“Well, I'm definitely going to vote no,” Hawley replied. “I hope there will be a growing group of us that will vote no. My guess is, knowing the Senate and being honest, all the Democrats will vote yes, which is 51. You know… And all it takes is a few Republicans, like you. Hopefully we can get more than 35 Republicans to vote against it, but that would slow it down in the House. Now we must clean up the House.”
Hawley added: “Even if every Democrat in the House votes for it, we still need 80 to 90 Republicans, so that's a real leverage point.”
As Breitbart News' Bradley Jay previously reported, the CR, which was introduced three days before the deadline to avoid a government shutdown, is “the first in a spending bill since 2009 to block automatic raises in Congress.” It removed a provision that had been included in the bill, effectively giving benefits to senators and members of the House of Representatives. “
The CR also includes a “one-year extension of the State Department's Global Engagement Center (GEC), which serves conservative censorship.”
