Controversy Surrounds Katie Porter After Interview Incident
Recently, a co-host from “The View” found herself defending Katie Porter, the Democratic candidate for governor of California, after an interview that went south due to a reporter’s seemingly straightforward question.
A video that gained traction in September captured Porter reprimanding CBS News reporter Julie Watts when she inquired about how Porter plans to connect with the 40% of Californians who supported Donald Trump in the past election. The show’s co-hosts rallied behind Porter, suggesting that perhaps she was just having a particularly rough day.
“You see, anything can happen. Yet, Porter mentioned in a statement that she’s been working on showing more appreciation for her staff’s crucial work,” the co-host explained. “I think some might be caught off guard by these clips; I’m not really surprised. We’ve seen similar outbursts from male hosts, like Bill O’Reilly and Laura Ingraham, and let’s not forget Trump himself, who often dismisses people he doesn’t like. You know, maybe folks are just going through a tough time. Running for office isn’t a walk in the park.”
Goldberg elaborated, comparing this to bad days that everyone encounters. “In an ideal scenario, everything would be perfect, but… well, we all have moments when we stumble.”
Co-host Ana Navarro added her take, suggesting that swearing often indicates higher intelligence. Meanwhile, Joy Behar pointed out that Trump seems to gain popularity with each outburst he has.
Behar queried, “Why does his approval only rise after such meltdowns?” Griffin stepped in, noting Trump is a unique case and defended Porter, asserting that Watts’ questions were legitimate and warranted critiquing Porter’s response.
This situation isn’t an isolated one for Porter. In a 2021 video, she was seen scolding her staff and rudely asking them to leave. Notably, a 2023 testimony suggested that in a domestic dispute, she allegedly threw a bowl of hot potatoes at her then-husband, alongside accusations of mistreating her team and making inappropriate comments.
Currently, Porter is ahead in the Democratic primary race, albeit by only six points behind Republican Steve Hilton, according to a Zogby Strategies poll. After a previous Senate run in March 2024, which didn’t go in her favor against Senator Adam Schiff, she’s now focused on the gubernatorial race.
