FBI Agents Conduct Search at John Bolton’s Home
FBI agents have carried out a search at the home of John Bolton, who served as President Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor, in Bethesda, Maryland. This operation is reportedly linked to a national security investigation concerning classified documents.
Bolton was in office for 17 months, from April to September 2018, until he resigned, which coincided with Trump’s announcement that he had let Bolton go.
On Friday, the FBI executed a search at both Bolton’s residence and his Washington, D.C. office. An official from the Trump administration mentioned that this action was directed by FBI Director Kash Patel.
During this time, Patel made a vague post on social media stating, “NO ONE is above the law… @FBI agents on mission.”
Reports suggest that the investigation into Bolton’s property is linked to an ongoing case about classified information that began during President Biden’s administration.
Since leaving the Trump administration, Bolton has not held back in criticizing Trump and even released a book in 2020 titled “The Room Where It Happened,” which presents a critical view of Trump and his foreign policy choices.
In 2020, the Justice Department had initiated a lawsuit against Bolton for publishing his memoir without a pre-publication review, claiming he breached a contract. Trump’s team had expressed concerns about the book, and the president attempted to block its release. Although the lawsuit was closed in 2021, it was followed by a criminal investigation regarding possible disclosures of sensitive information.
Upon taking office for his second term, Trump revoked Bolton’s security clearance, alleging that Bolton had published classified material in his book, which Bolton disputes. Additionally, the president terminated his Secret Service protection in February.
Earlier this year, Bolton had anticipated potential trouble with Patel’s FBI.
In an interview, he remarked on Trump’s appointments, stating, “The central characteristic Trump seems to be looking for in all of the appointees we’ve seen so far is fealty to him.” He characterized this as dangerous, especially if there’s retaliation against former officials.
As of now, Bolton faces no criminal charges and has not been arrested.
On the morning of the search, Trump spoke to reporters and shared his thoughts on Bolton, saying, “He’s not a smart guy, but he could be a very unpatriotic guy. We’re going to find out.”
