The technology behind VX4
of VX4 is an eVTOL UAM (urban air mobility) aircraft designed to carry one pilot and four passengers. With a cruising speed of 150 mph and a range of 100 miles, it's perfect for quick urban commutes. The aircraft can accommodate a 992 lb payload and is powered by eight low-noise propellers and eight electric motors.
Large windows and skylights enhance the passenger experience, providing great views during flight. The VX4 features a high-wing configuration with flaps and ailerons, with the wingtips serving dual roles as winglets and anhedral surfaces. The tail is configured in a V-shape with a rudder, and below the tail is a VHF antenna that provides an aerodynamic advantage at a high angle.
The VX4 has a wingspan of 49 feet 2 inches, an overall length of 42 feet 8 inches, and a height of 13 feet 1 in. Retractable tricycle landing gear ensures smooth landings and takeoffs.

A technological leap forward in eVTOL design
The VX4 prototype represents a major advancement in eVTOL technology, delivering a 20% improvement in power-to-weight ratio over its predecessor. The VX4 is the first prototype to incorporate Vertical's proprietary battery technology, developed at the Vertical Energy Centre. This new battery system is the most powerful and lightest the company has ever produced.
Vertical Aerospace has worked with several global aerospace partners, including GKN Aerospace, Honeywell and Leonardo, to integrate advanced technologies into the VX4. Around 60% of the aircraft's components are provided by these strategic partners, who play a vital role in improving the aircraft's overall performance.

The VX4 is designed with safety in mind
Safety is a top priority in the VX4's design. It uses distributed electric propulsion, providing redundancy for increased safety. It has multiple propellers and motors, allowing it to land safely even if one or more components fail. With electric batteries and motors that have fewer moving parts, the VX4 is not only less complex than traditional petroleum-fueled aircraft, but also more reliable. This design, with a focus on safety and efficiency, makes the VX4 a leading contender for the future of urban air mobility.

“eVTOLs are moving from an exciting but distant future into a reality for people. We see great demand for eVTOLs as they offer a solution to many of the problems people face in urban areas, including pollution, congestion and noise. As with any new form of transportation, we know there will be questions from the public about safety, but our eVTOLs will meet the highest global safety standards, just like commercial aircraft.”
