A former Republican aide from New Jersey is at the center of a bizarre case involving a staged attack allegedly aimed at garnering sympathy through a politically motivated hoax. Natalie Green, 26, was reportedly driving a Maserati and has an interesting background, including a stint at law school, though she is no longer enrolled.
Green, who previously worked for Representative Jeff Van Drew, was accused of fabricating a violent incident after she had phrases like “Trump whore” written on her body. She had enrolled at Rutgers Law School in 2022, but her academic status has since changed.
Prior to her arrest, she shared social media posts showcasing a glamorous side, including pictures in a sequined dress, which were quickly deleted after the story broke. Originally from Ocean City, her parents have ties to the local community, with her mother working in human resources and her father at a sign company.
Her attorney stated that Green was dedicated to her community while balancing both her job and education, adding that she deserves legal presumption of innocence as the case unfolds.
Green’s troubles began when she allegedly staged an attack on July 23, which involved paying a body modification artist $500 to inflict severe scarring on her body. This was right before she claimed to be assaulted by armed men while hiking, alleging that they restrained her and made inflammatory statements during the incident.
Following the supposed assault, Green was taken to the hospital where inconsistencies in her account raised red flags for the police. Her claims included being tied up and marked with derogatory phrases, all of which prosecutors believe were fabricated.
Van Drew’s office expressed concern for Green despite her departure from the team. Local reactions have been varied, with some residents expressing disbelief and concern over the entire situation. One woman, Fiona Tierney, commented on the sadness surrounding Green’s actions, reflecting on her age and potential. Another resident voiced confusion about the lengths she went to in orchestrating the attack, labeling the choice as deeply misguided.
Facing charges related to conspiracy and providing false statements to federal authorities, Green’s story has left many in the community feeling unsettled about the implications of her actions.
